About Dollar General

The story of J.L. Turner, the founder of Dollar General, will inspire you to achieve more.

In 1902, the father of J.L Turner died in a car accident; at that time, Turner was 11 years old. James started working at a farm and then tried in retailing, but he failed twice. Turner became a dry good traveling salesman and left the job after ten years.

He found out the opportunity of buying and liquidating bankrupt general stores during the Great Depression. His only son, Cal turner, was learning great life and business lessons while accompanying his father.

Father and son duo saved enough money to open a retail store, and in 1939 they opened the first store with an initial investment of $5000 each. American people loved the concept, and sales crossed $2 million by the early 1950s.

By the mid-1950s, they were running 35 department stores in Kentucky and Tennessee. They were breaking all records of sales, and with this, they changed the name of all their stores to Dollar Generals.

In 1964, J.L. Turner died, and Cal took over the rains, within four years sales went through to the roof. They had achieved $40 million in sales and $1.5 million net profit in 1968.

In 1968, Dollar General also went to the public, and later in 1977, Carl Turner Junior joined a company. Under Carl Jr. Leadership Company grew to more than 6,000 stores and $6 billion in sales.

Currently, DG is running over 15000 plus stores in the USA were more than 130000 employees are working.

Currently, DG is one of the top choices of customers when it comes to affordable shopping option. Dollar General Team knows that a satisfied customer is an asset of the company, and they want to make sure that his buyer gets a great experience every time they enter into the DG store.

And that is the main reason behind starting Dgcustomerfirst.com; it helps them to know actual store experience, and it will help the DG customer satisfaction team to eliminate weaker areas.
